South African farmers are under daily threat of farm attacks. Although the latest figures, as is the case every year, are shocking, government still refuses to view farm attacks and murders as priority crimes. AfriForum creates hope, however, by establishing safety structures to enhance the safety of people on farms. The civil rights organisation’s latest statistics also indicate that farm attacks are on the increase, but that farm murders are decreasing, which indicate that farming communities are becoming more defensible. AfriForum also launched comprehensive awareness, safety, prevention and support campaigns on local, national and international level.
