AfriForum supports campaign against Draft Expropriation Bill

The civil rights organisation AfriForum announced that they will put all their effort into the campaign for the protection of property rights to oppose the Draft Expropriation Bill that was approved by the Cabinet today.
Ernst Roets, Deputy CEO of AfriForum, said that the threat to the right to private property is the single biggest threat to the democratic system in South Africa.

“The right to private property is a cornerstone of democracy. If property rights are disrespected, a free market cannot exist. If the free market is threatened, the welfare of all South Africans are at risk,” Roets said.

AfriBusiness launched a campaign on the protection of property rights earlier this year.

• The Draft Expropriation Bill will soon be submitted to Parliament for approval.
